Patients undergoing standard procedures can easily relax with nitrous oxide. This odorless and colorless gas helps to induce a state of relaxation and even euphoria in some patients. You inhale the gas and will start to feel its effects almost immediately. Once the gas is stopped, you will return to normal which means you can drive yourself home after your procedure.
Intravenous conscious sedation (IV sedation) involves administering anesthetic drugs directly into the bloodstream. We monitor you the entire time and you will still be awake but barely conscious. Most patients do not remember much about their visit with IV sedation dentistry. The medication will wear off several hours after treatment so you will most likely sleep and rest when you get home.
Many general dentistry and some cosmetic procedures can be performed under local anesthesia. We inject lidocaine to numb certain parts of the mouth and the numbing effect lasts for several hours. We can perform procedures without causing pain or discomfort and you will be able to drive yourself home after your visit.
